Dental Fillings for Children

Dental Treatment - Fillings for Children

Tooth-colored fillings or composite restorations are essential in helping to maintain the oral health of your children. Once your child has a cavity, it is important to have the cavity removed, and a filling placed in order to prevent further tooth decay.

Dr. Jacqueline Caster will examine your child’s mouth, and then discuss treatment options with you based on the size of your child’s cavity.

Many times nitrous oxide inhalation or “laughing gas” is recommended for use during dental treatment. The filling procedure is completed with minimal discomfort where “tooth sleepy juice” or local anesthetic numbing is administered prior to having the cavity removed.

A special dental toothbrush (i.e. a dental handpiece/drill) is used to remove the decay. The tooth is cleaned and filled with a tooth-colored filling material, also known as composite, to match your child’s tooth. Using a blue light, the material will be hardened or cured for a natural-looking and durable result.
